Lost on Sunset

Back when ex-wife and I were first dating, we took a drive on the outskirts of Redlands and ended up lost – lost on Sunset. And we both thought, wow, what a great title for a song. And I finally wrote it 6 years later. It is about a simpler time and place that anyone can choose to find wherever they are. It just felt right to end this record with such a carefree song that feels, to me, like a fresh start to a wonderful new adventure.
Wrong turn back there
I took it just to see the sunlight in your hair
We're not going anywhere
And we really don't care
Hot sun beats down
It's a summer day at the edge of town
Windows open, arms uncrossed
It's a perfect day to get lost on sunset
Out in the streets
There's people washing cars in their bare feet
Children run in the summer heat
As the day retreats
Yard after yard
Is full of picnic tables and people playing cards
The best times come without a cost
Seems like everyone gets lost on sunset
And it's easy to get by
On lemonade stands and apple pie
Don't give me no highway
I just wanna stay, I wanna stay lost
Real world demands
The conference calls and the traffic jams
Sometimes it all seems like a scam
It's hard to give a damn
Weekend arrives
And the tether breaks on our busy lives
Our song comes on and our cares get tossed
It's a perfect day to get lost, baby
I just wanna get lost on sunset
